Ventura Design – Interior Designers 2017 New Year Resolution

With a the new year under way, last year’s trends long gone, and no limit to new, we see ourselves setting our objectives for 2017. As we contemplate over our own New Year promises, we’ve turned to some of our very own in-house designers and creatives to hear what they hope to achieve in the year to come.

From learning a new design skill, to digitally detoxing, there’s no shortage of motivation for 2017!

Arlene McIntyre:

We had a great 2016 – but I’m really looking forward to 2017.  This year will be about creating, expanding and making new ideas come into fruition.  I look forward to seeing our new Ventura Southside based showroom open its doors this month and watch it grow.   I’ll be focusing my energies into new and exciting business collaborations in the pipeline for this year along with creating new furniture products and a new fabric collection from Italy.  On a personal note I hope to continue taking risks, to set aside time in my daily schedule to blog more, to practice more mindfulness each day and to stop checking my emails on a Sunday!  But most importantly I’m looking forward to getting back into long walks in the park each day with our 2 new little dogs!

Aoife Cheevers:

“My New Year’s resolution is to read more and also keep up to date on trends for 2017 and to continue to source new and exciting furniture and lighting for our upcoming projects. I hope to take more risks with colour and think outside the box. I’m also looking forward to travelling throughout the year and exploring new places!”

Grainne Coyle:

My resolution for 2017 is to learn a new design skill such as Archicad or Sketch-up Pro for enhancing new client presentations, but would also love to improve my sketching skills, so I’m not always having to rely on CAD for drawing.

Keep the notice board of my current projects updated more regularly, do a digital detox once a month and go for more lunchtime walks.

Emma Cooling:

One of my resolutions is to update my own home this Spring, taking inspiration from the revitalising shade ‘Greenery’ which is Patone’s 2017 colour of the year. A simple and affordable way to do this is to replace the covers on scatter cushions, swap over small accessories for new ones and to paint the walls.
My other resolution is to stop looking at my phone first thing in the morning to check out Pinterest and instead mediate for 10 minutes. This should allow room for creativity to flow during the day and help with any stress.

2017 is particularly exciting and special for me as I am expecting my first baby in April.

Now that April is fast approaching I find myself spending endless hours thinking about how to decorate a nursery for our little girl. We live in a two-bedroomed apartment, so I am need to think of a creative way to make this room work as a guest bedroom as well as an beautiful nursery. My own personal style is very influenced by the simplicity of Scandinavian Design and I love the idea of combining blush pink tones with white, grey and black to create a contemporary space with a subtle feminine twist. My New Years resolution for 2017 is to have this room finished before the baby arrives in April.

Adrienne Lonergan:

New Years  equals a fresh start; what to omit and what to add? One of my additions is to drink warm water with lemon and turmeric (can’t hurt) each morning. The reoccurring ‘ eat more greens’ doesn’t seem to take but reappears on my list each year.

Professionally, I consider myself lucky to be working in a profession that continues to inspire and excite me. All trends and design forecasts aside; the enduring timelessness of a home environment which is comfortable, authentic, relaxed and a reflection of personal style is to me, the ideal.  Looking forward to encouraging clients to create this ideal haven.

Evan Fenlon:

Finally getting to put my New Year resolutions into action.

Firstly I’ve started to de clutter my wardrobe, if I haven’t worn it in the last 6-8 months, it’s going to go to the charity shop.

Then it’s time to get fit again, so my new wardrobe will look better on me than the last one did.

Last year was an exciting time for me, joining the wonderful team here at Ventura. I’m excited for the year ahead and for what it may have in store for me. Design is not only to create a truly unique home, it also enables us to completely rethink how we live. When you do it right, it can really improve the quality of our lives.

Quote of the day

“Toto, I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore”.

Well, now that my baby is one year old (sad face), for me it’s all about de-cluttering my wardrobe and saying goodbye to all things maternity!

As we know fashion is a big influence on what trends are predicted in Interiors and  this year Marc Jacobs and Prada were seen experimenting with tropical prints.

This print will continue to appear in wallpaper and designer fabrics, however I know not many people would be brave enough to take on such a bold print.

That said, I feel that we will see more adventure with colour and people stepping away from grey tones. Here’s to a colourful 2017!!

For 2017 I am going to fully focus and enjoy my work. My resolution this year is to finish our product catalogue design and get started on developing our new furniture collection. A comfortable and creative workspace will help me to enjoy my work more, and my favourite way to do this is to pin all the pictures that inspire me on the wall.

*Top Tip: Scented candles and table plants are a simple way to create a relaxing atmosphere in any space. ”

Zara Leon:

My New Year resolution is to dedicate more time in the evenings to go to the gym to help clear my mind.

Also, I love to work on our commercial and exhibition projects and this year I hope to attend the ‘Salone Del Mobile’ show in Milan, as I find this show incredibly inspiring.

Anna Petukhova

My aim for 2017 year is to keep balance and harmony between body and soul. I‘ll strive to have less stress, attend yoga classes and try to organise my time better.

I would like to continue working on private and commercial interiors, improve my sketching skills and educate myself using Revit, a digital design program. This year helping my parents and grandmother design their new four bedroom cottage. At the moment I’m drawing inspiration from restful neutral tones and urban jungle design.

2017 is going to be a very exciting year for me. I have recently returned from Milan where I graduated with a Maters in Lighting Design and now I am a proud member of the Ventura Family.

My resolution for this year is to focus on designing and developing Ventura’s product range. I have also been working on a private project for my parents, which I began in 2016 but never got a chance to finish as I was busy with my studies. I Designed this 3D render for their living room and hope to have the project built and the room completed for them by spring 2017
